TRON Contest Entry

My manager at LITE, Scott Malo, is a huge Tron fan. He got the art team together to create an entry for a CG Society fan film contest. It was a good time and a great learning experience. Many mistakes were made and even more lessons were learned.

  • Built the character and disc rigs from the ground up. Decided not use the suite of auto-rigging tools I had built for the studio and instead try out some new set-up ideas.
  • Experimentation with anti-gimbal lock control schemes to help with the highly acrobatic nature of the animation.
  • Built a dynamic disc rig that interacted with the characters giving the animator the ability to attach the disc to several points on the body or move completely independently.
  • Maintained the rigs throughout the production and did the necessary shot specific skin fixes and blendshapes.
